APJ Abdul Kalam was a visionary scientist, a beloved president and an inspiring teacher who touched the lives of millions of Indians. He was born on 15 October, in Rameswaram, a small island town in Tamil Nadu. His father Jainulabdeen was a boat owner and his mother Ashiamma was a housewife.
