Lieutenant-GeneralAhmad Shuja Pasha (Urdu language: احمد شجاع پاشا ), HI(M) (born 18 March 1952) was the Director-General of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Pakistan's main intelligence service, from October 2008 until March 2012.[1] He was due to reach the age of superannuation on 18 March 2010, but has received one extension.[2] His tenure was extended by a year, until 18 March 2012 when he retired.[3] Pasha has been replaced by Lieutenant General Zaheerul Islam.[2] In 2011, Ahmad Shuja Pasha was named as one of the 100 most influential people by Time Magazine.[4][5]
Army career[]
Pasha was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the famed Frontier Force Regiment in the 49th PMA Long Course in 1974. He has commanded an infantry battalion, a mechanized infantry brigade and has served as the Chief Instructor of the Command and Staff College of the Pakistani Army. From 2001 to 2002, General Pasha served as a Contingent and Sector Commander of the United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone.
Pasha was promoted to Major General in January 2003,[6] and posted as GOC 8th Infantry Division in Sialkot. From there in April 2005, he was sent as Commandant Command and Staff College in Quetta. From Apri

Hakim Ahmad ShujaMBE (Urdu: حکیم احمد شجاع; 4 November 1893 – 4 January 1969) was a prominent Pakistani poet, playwright and lyricist, who published his works in the Urdu and Persian languages.[1][2]
Background
[edit]Hakim Ahmad Shuja was born in an old and prominent family of mystics and Islamic religious scholars, who had migrated from Arabia,[dubious – discuss] Afghanistan and Turkey to India during the 10th-12th centuries AD.[3][4][5] From his paternal side, he was a direct descendant[dubious – discuss] of Abdul Qadir Gilani, Abu Ayyub al-Ansari and Abdul Wahid bin Zaid, and from his maternal side, of the Sadozai tribe which at one time ruled Afghanistan.[3] During the times of the Sultans of Delhi, the family came to prominence as religious divines and Hakims i.e. practitioners of the traditional Hikmat (the Unani, or Greek system of medicine) and by the time of the Mughal Emperor Akbar the Great (c.1542-1605) they were established as Court Physicians at Lahore, in the Bhati Gate area of the Old City.
