Dr. R.A. Mashelkar, National Research Professor, is presently also the President of Global Research Alliance, a network of publicly funded R&D institutes from Asia-Pacific, Europe and USA with over 60,000 scientists.

The Collectors | Bernhard Steinruecke
In 1986 Bernhard Steinruecke was the executive assistant to Dr Zapp the head of Deutsche Bank, Dusseldorf. He was given charge of tending to the legendary collection of the bank. Subsequently, transferred to Singapore where he headed the Asia Pacific region, building on a new collection, before he came to Srilanka (1991-93). It was in Colombo that he converted his residence into a gallery, holding exhibitions of artists from the region, Germany, Singapore Belgium etc. Bernhard was unwittingly creating an art scene where none existed! In his 2-year tenure, he organised 8 exhibitions, in scale and size, never witnessed before.
His next transfer was Bombay. On the day that Steinruecke landed in the city, he chanced upon ‘Saturday Times’ at his hotel, in which was an article about an art consultant mother-daughter duo – Usha and Ranjana Mirchandani (written by Namita Devidayal!) He immediately contacted them. They became consultants to the project and the rest is history! Ranjana and Bernard married. Many years later, both mother and daughter launched their gallery, Gallerie Mirchandani Steinruecke.
