This inquiry generally informed this study as annual graduation messages issued by the Philippine Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary are analysed. This paper hopes to contribute to a research-based, logical, and relevant crafting of graduation messages in the future. This paper recognizes the impact of each graduation message as it serves as a venue in capturing what DepEd attempts to relay to its stakeholders, particularly student graduates in the context of this paper. This study is anchored on J. L. Austin’s Speech Act Theory which claims that “language goes beyond saying but doing things” (Anderson, 2018).
